Haunts USA history
Ever since that dark and stormy Halloween night back in 1970 when a spirited father laid waiting in a refrigerator box, painted black to be a coffin (picture), to scare those feisty trick-or-treaters, Harlan Freedman was hooked into the Halloween spirit. To Harlan, Halloween is a truly unique American holiday where anyone, the young or young at heart, can for one day be any anything or anyone (from spooky, super hero to hilarious) celebrate a simply super cool and fun holiday (and get free candy too!).
Since his father planted the Halloween germ, Harlan and later with his wife Laura, decorated their home every year for hundreds of Halloween revelers to enjoy. In the beginning it started with a few tombstones, then year-after-year while acquiring more and scarier decorations, their home and yard grew and grew more elaborate even having their friends come over, dress up as monsters and scare the kids (and their parents). Then Halloween Y2K a neighbor of Harlan and Laura, admiring their over-the-top Halloween spookified home, suggested that they create haunted house’s for a living.
Harlan, a reality TV producer and Laura a QuickBooks Professional Advisor have been very successful while calling Los Angeles their home and that if they were going to moonlight creating a professional haunted house attraction, that it had to be something special for the community, a give back. Investing their own savings, HauntsUSA was created in 2002 with the mission to create a free fundraising event to help raise money for local/national charities while creating an amazing Halloween haunted house attraction and fall festival for all ages of families to enjoy.
